Industry
7
Does anyone here do a real job, and does that job matter?
On Making Fun, industry is a 7. In the middle. Neither the strength of the story nor the thing that fails it. Franklin was not writing a hustle poster. A free person feeds a house by being useful. Rest is sweet after the work, not instead of it.
What it is
Franklin was not writing a hustle poster. A free person feeds a house by being useful. Rest is sweet after the work, not instead of it.
A high mark
By the end someone is more useful than they were, and the work is treated as worthy of them.
A thin mark
Getting has come loose from making. Ordinary work is the joke, or a windfall is the moral.
What it is not
Not a sermon about hustle, and not a wage. A poor man who does his work can outscore a rich man who does not.
What to look for
- 1Somebody finishes a job you could name.
- 2If the success arrives as a montage or a windfall, the work was skipped.
- 3Rest after the work is fine. It is a problem when the story loves the idle part best.
- 4Ask who eats because of the work. A house, or a name on a screen.
