Work, and the work is a film about criminals. Admire the refusal to sand it down. Do not admire the life in the film.
The Offer is a workplace story about not letting a committee sand the uncomfortable part off. That is a real virtue in a maker. The uncomfortable part, in this case, is a beautiful portrait of a crime family, and this series is a little in love with having been in the room.
Watch it after The Godfather, not instead of a conscience about it. The courage was the cut they refused. The danger was the life they made look magnificent.
