Ice Age

A found company that does the one job: get the child home. The jokes are extra. The job is good.

The first Ice Age is a simple delivery story, which is why it still works when the sequels do not. A child is separated from his father. Three animals who dislike each other take up the walk. Manny's grief, when the film lets it surface, is the reason he will not abandon this one. The slapstick is for the small children. The walk is for you.

Good for the family. Talk about why they did not keep the baby. Then, if the house wants more, know that the later films trade the errand for a franchise.

The eight

  1. Industry

    4/10

Survival is the work. Nobody has a trade except the journey.

  2. Household

    8/10

The plot is a baby being carried back to a parent by creatures who did not have to.

  3. Piety

    3/10

Awe at the ice, nothing more.

  4. Courage

    7/10

The tiger was the danger. He turns around for the child.

  5. Republic

    6/10

A herd of the unwilling. They become responsible for one another.

  6. Temperance

    6/10

Broad, silly, and not cruel. The baby is not the punchline.

  7. Truth

    5/10

Motives start false and get corrected.

  8. Stewardship

    7/10

The whole film is a delivery to the next generation, done by people with no claim on the child.

Live historicallyWalk a child all the way to the door they are actually expected at. Do not stop at the interesting part.
