The Twits

Cruelty as a comedy. Dahl's warning is in it, and so is the risk that the cruelty is the fun.

The Twits are a portrait of a couple who have made cruelty their hobby, and the story exists to bring them down. That aim is fair. The texture is disgusting on purpose, and children often love the texture more than the downfall. This is not for the young row it is sitting in. If an older child sees it, the sentence to add is that being revolting is not a personality the film gets to make charming.

The eight

  1. Industry

    2/10

They do no useful work. Their energy goes into meanness.

  2. Household

    2/10

A marriage that is a contest of ugliness.

  3. Piety

    1/10

Nothing is looked up to. The joke is how low they can go.

  4. Courage

    4/10

The people they hurt eventually refuse them.

  5. Republic

    4/10

A neighborhood that has to decide it will not be ruled by a nasty house.

  6. Temperance

    2/10

    Grossness is the method.

  7. Truth

    5/10

They are bad, and the story does not ask you to find them secretly noble.

  8. Stewardship

    3/10

What a child may copy is the prank, not the refusal.

Live historicallySkip it for the under-tens. If it plays, ask who was hurt, not what was funny.

KPop Demon Hunters

Courage as a single, and the underworld as a wardrobe. The product is the group.

Demon-hunting would be a serious plot if the demons cost anything. Here they are the visual for a pop act, and the act is what the film is selling. Older children will hear the songs and miss the theology, because there isn't one. Skip it for the young. For a teen already inside the music, say the plain thing: a demon that exists to be stylish is not a danger, and a group is not a house.

The eight

  1. Industry

    5/10

Rehearsal is work. The work is the brand.

  2. Household

    2/10

    No household. A lineup.

  3. Piety

    2/10

Demons are a style. Nothing is reverent, including the danger.

  4. Courage

    5/10

They do face the thing. They face it on cue, under lights.

  5. Republic

    3/10

A crowd is not a city. The girls owe the audience a chorus.

  6. Temperance

    2/10

Glamour and a supernatural fight, both turned up.

  7. Truth

    3/10

Evil is a costume change. The film enjoys the costume.

  8. Stewardship

    2/10

What a child copies is the lineup, not a way to live.

Live historicallyIf the songs stay in the house, ask what the fight was for besides the stage.
