Goosebumps

A scare for children that stays a scare. The moral is usually 'don't touch that.'

Stine's bargain is simple. A child meddles, the object answers, and an adult saying 'it's nothing' is the second mistake. The show is not deep and does not pretend to be. It is a safe place to practice being afraid and then turning the light on.

Keep it for the age that wants a monster and can still sleep. Skip the episodes that make the joke the child's body.

Are You Afraid of the Dark?

A campfire. The frame matters: they are together, and the story ends.

The Midnight Society is the good part. Children practice telling and listening, and the dark is a story with a boundary. Individual tales vary from clever to cheap. Keep the boundary. If a tale is only cruel, end the night there.
