How to Train Your Dragon

A son and a father, and a creature spared. The village is real. The mercy is the argument.

Hiccup is not brave because he is different. He is brave because he tells a warring village the truth and stays to live with the consequence. His father is a chief, not a punchline, and the reconciliation is earned. This is a yes for a child, watched together. You do not owe anyone the sequels the same night. The first film already finished the sentence.

The eight

Coraline

She goes home to the parents who are imperfect and real. Frightening, and worth it for an older child beside you.

Coraline is bored of parents who are busy, and a door offers her the same house with better food and a mother who has all the time in the world. The price is her eyes. The film is clear, and it should be: a love that needs you altered, buttoned, and grateful for the alteration is not love. The real parents are not idealized. They are hers. She chooses them.

Too frightening for a small child. Right for an older one who can say, afterward, why she did not stay. If they cannot say it, they were too young for the door.

The eight

  1. Industry

    5/10

The other mother works at her trap. The real parents are busy and flawed and still the true house.

  2. Household

    8/10

A girl learns the difference between a parent who is tired and a parent who wants to own her.

  3. Piety

    6/10

Something is owed to the stolen children. The button eyes are a blasphemy the film knows is a blasphemy.

  4. Courage

    8/10

She goes back, for the ghost children and for herself. She does not stay in the pretty room.

  5. Republic

    4/10

A house and a few neighbors. The world is small and sufficient.

  6. Temperance

    7/10

Every treat has a hook. The film does not ask you to want the feast.

  7. Truth

    8/10

The other mother lies by improving everything. Coraline learns to prefer the true, plainer thing.

  8. Stewardship

    7/10

She will not leave the other children lost. What she saves, she does not keep as a trophy.

Live historicallyTell a child one thing you will never ask them to give up in order to be loved.
