Annie

An orphan who wants a family, not a career. The songs are big. The want is the right want.

Annie wants to be someone's child. The film surrounds that want with a great deal of Broadway, and the want survives it. The orphanage is not a joke. For a child old enough for the drunk and the danger, this is a yes, watched together. Do not confuse it with a later remake that aims the same songs at a showcase. The 1982 film still knows the prize is the house.

The eight

  1. Industry

    5/10

The orphanage is work done badly. Daddy Warbucks's money is not the moral, the household is.

  2. Household

    8/10

The story ends when a child has parents. That is the correct ending.

  3. Piety

    4/10

Hope is sung at full volume. It is hope for a home, not for a crowd.

  4. Courage

    6/10

She is brave in a building that is not safe, and she is a child, which the film remembers.

  5. Republic

    5/10

A city in a hard decade. One house decides to be responsible.

  6. Temperance

    5/10

The musical is excessive. The wish is not a product.

  7. Truth

    6/10

The orphanage is cruel and shown as cruel.

  8. Stewardship

    8/10

What is handed on is a daughter with a name and a roof.

Live historicallyIf you watch it, talk about the orphanage, not about the mansion.

Beauty and the Beast

The old promise, in a larger dress. The promise still holds. Prefer it to nothing, not to the tale.

This is the live-action enlargement of the 1991 film, which is itself an enlargement of Beaumont's tale. The part that is still true: Belle offers herself for her father, and she returns when she said she would. The beast's temper is the obstacle. The castle is a household under a curse, which is a picture of what a house becomes when the master is a child. The padding — more backstory, more spectacle — does not improve the promise. It delays it.

A family can watch it. If you know the shorter tale, say that the tale is stricter and better. If you do not, take the two facts: she went in his place, and she came back on time.

The eight

  1. Industry

    4/10

A village, a father who is an inventor. The castle does not work so much as it waits.

  2. Household

    8/10

A daughter takes a father's punishment. The ending is a household or it is nothing.

  3. Piety

    4/10

A curse as moral consequence. Enchantment does the preaching.

  4. Courage

    7/10

She rides back. He lets her go, which is the other bravery.

  5. Republic

    4/10

A provincial town that gossips and a prince who ignored it.

  6. Temperance

    6/10

His rage is the excess. Gaston's vanity is the other.

  7. Truth

    7/10

She said she would return. The story still turns on that.

  8. Stewardship

    7/10

A prison becoming a house, if he can be taught.
