Would you still put it on?

What it really is

It is a children's cartoon and it is more serious about a family than most adult television. A father plays until he is tired and then plays a little more. A mother has a job and a temper and a repair. The children are allowed to be children, which means they are not asked to carry the emotional labor of the house.

Watch it with the people you are raising, or watch one episode and notice what you rush. The standard is not the jokes. It is a mother and a father who are still a pair, and a house where someone comes back into the room.

Live historically

Play one game the child invents, all the way to the end, without a phone in the room.

The eight

  1. Industry

    8/10

Parents have jobs. Play is the rest, not a substitute for work.

  2. Household

    10/10

Marriage, sisters, a father who stays in the game. The home is the whole plot.

  3. Piety

    6/10

Reverence is quiet. Gratitude and apology are practiced, not preached.

  4. Courage

    6/10

The brave thing is usually a parent admitting he was short, or a child trying again.

  5. Republic

    7/10

Neighbors, cousins, a school. Other people are not obstacles.

  6. Temperance

    8/10

Feelings are named and then put back in proportion. Nobody is trained to spiral.

  7. Truth

    8/10

They tell the truth to children without making the truth a weapon.

  8. Stewardship

    9/10

The games are how a craft of being a person gets handed down.
