Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage

A too-fast marriage, played for comedy, with a job and a child already in the room. Growing up is the plot.

Georgie was the charming brother who got a girl pregnant and then, surprisingly, stayed. This series is about the staying: a job, a mother-in-law, a wife who is sharper than the setup. It is a sitcom, so the growth arrives on a timer.

Better than another universe where the young man leaves. Watch it as a picture of a start that was too soon, not as proof that too soon is romantic.

The eight

  1. Industry

    6/10

He works. The work is not glamorous, and the check is the point.

  2. Household

    7/10

A wife, a baby, two sets of parents. The house is crowded on purpose.

  3. Piety

    3/10

Church is background. Duty shows up as the crib.

  4. Courage

    5/10

He stays in a life he started before he was ready.

  5. Republic

    3/10

A Texas town, mostly as a set for relatives.

  6. Temperance

    5/10

The jokes are family jokes. The heat is lower than the shows it spun out of.

  7. Truth

    6/10

It admits they began wrong and does not treat that as a brand.

  8. Stewardship

    6/10

A young father is the future of that family, if he becomes one.

Live historicallyIf someone in your house is playing at being grown, hand them one real bill and sit with them while they pay it.

America: The Story of Us

A wide overview. Useful as a map, too smooth to be the map's last word.

A house that does not know the order of things, settlement, revolution, the river, the war, the factory, the highway, cannot tell a true story about the present. This series gives the order in a voice that wants you to feel inspired. Take the order. Go to a better book for the chapter that the inspiration sands down.

The eight

  1. Industry

    6/10

Canals, railroads, factories. Making is in the story.

  2. Household

    4/10

Families are examples more than characters.

  3. Piety

    3/10

Providence is offstage. The tone is documentary uplift.

  4. Courage

    5/10

    Wars and crossings are included.

  5. Republic

    6/10

The country is the subject, which television usually will not sit with.

  6. Temperance

    6/10

    Broad, not lurid.

  7. Truth

    5/10

True in outline, proud in narration, thin on the argument.

  8. Stewardship

    6/10

It exists to hand a sequence down. The sequence is worth having.
