Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
36It will not make you better. Not an average of critics. Eight questions, one house.
A great and terrible musical. The point is that revenge eats the innocent, including what he loved. Adults. Not a sing-along.

Household, Piety, Courage, Republic, Temperance, Stewardship are the thin ones.

Sondheim's barber is not a slasher with songs pasted on. The songs are the accusation. A man with a real injury decides the injury licenses a general hunger, and Mrs. Lovett turns the hunger into a business. The daughter is the future he claims to want and does not bother to know. A thirteen-year-old who likes musicals will be pulled by the craft and kept by the blood.
Later, for a mature house, with the ending actually discussed: he kills the thing he came back for. Not this morning, between a comedy row and a cartoon.

The eight
Industry
6/10
A trade: the razor, the pies, a shop that becomes a crime.
Household
3/10
A wife, a daughter, a partner. He destroys the house to avenge the house.
Piety
2/10
A judge as a devil. No mercy anywhere, and the film does not offer a hymn to that.
Courage
4/10
He is fearless and lost. Fearlessness without a good is the tragedy.
Republic
4/10
London as a mill of the poor. The film sees the mill and then adds a private massacre.
Temperance
1/10
Blood set to music. The beauty is the danger.
Truth
7/10
It tells the truth that the avenger cannot see: the woman he mourns is in the room.
Stewardship
2/10
What it would hand a child is a lovely razor. Do not hand it.
