Pass it on
The Polish Americans
66Worth an evening.
A straight history. Use it so the films do not become the only record.
The review
Most of this shelf is story, because story is what a house will actually sit through. A people also needs one plain history so the stories can be checked. Pula is that book for Polish America. It will not move you the way The Deer Hunter moves you. It will keep you from thinking the wedding in that film is the whole past.
Own it if this is your people. Borrow the habit if it is not: one survey history beside the novels.

Keep The Polish Americans in the record.
No house has filed a sentence for this yet.
Live Historic number 66. Yours can differ.
The glance
Courage is the thin one.
Does anyone risk something they would miss, or is it only noise?
This phone is set for a grown person, just me. Change the ages.

Consider this
Foxfire
78 instead of 66
Foxfire is still a history book, and it scores 78 instead of 66. What you gain is industry: Hog dressing, cabins, looms, rifles, and the order of the work.
The eight
- 7Industry
Mills, mines, and parishes are the spine of the account.
- 6Household
Families are the unit of the migration, told at a historian's distance.
- 6Piety
The parish is treated as the institution that held people, which is accurate.
- 5Courage
No dramatized courage. The endurance is in the numbers and the names.
- 6Republic
Unions, wards, and the fight to be counted as American without disappearing.
- 7Temperance
A survey cannot be lurid. That is a virtue in this company.
- 8Truth
It is a historian's book, not a myth.
- 8Stewardship
The reason to own it is so the next reader does not start from a movie.
