It

41It will not make you better. Not an average of critics. Eight questions, one house.

The friendship is real. The fear is the product. Not for a child. Leave it if the house is young.

The Losers' Club is the part that earns a score above a zero. Seven children, several of them already failed by the house they live in, tell each other the truth the adults will not say, and they go back. That is courage, and it is a kind of household. Pennywise is not a mystery the film wants solved so much as a mouth it wants opened. Georgie is the opening. The sewer, the blood, the missing posters: the picture is good at fright and generous with it.

Do not watch this with a child because the heroes are children. That is the oldest mistake a horror poster makes. Adults can see it and then say what the film will not linger on: a town that keeps a secret is already the monster. The clown is the advertisement.

    6/10

They make a fellowship because the houses failed.

  3. Piety

    2/10

Derry bows to whatever eats, and calls it weather.

    8/10

They return to the thing that wants them.

  5. Republic

    4/10

A whole city keeps the secret.

  6. Temperance

    2/10

The scare is the product, and it is generous with it.

  7. Truth

    5/10

The children name it. The picture enjoys it.

  8. Stewardship

    3/10

Buddy

41It will not make you better. Not an average of critics. Eight questions, one house.

Forced cheer is a cage. The child who says no is the one the show cannot bear.

Take controlThis scores 41. Buddy cannot be blocked by name on this shelf. The lock is the phone. Block it

Inside a 1990s children's program, an orange unicorn leads the songs. A boy will not join the dance. He vanishes, and the host tells the others he has gone to a perfect city. Another child finds what he left, and it is not a postcard. The public story stops at the crack: the cheer was the lock, and the no was the thing the lock could not allow.

Do not put this in front of a child who still loves a show like it. The measure is for the adult who presses play. A smile that punishes the child who will not wear it is not friendship. It is a host.

The eight

  1. Industry

    3/10

The work of the show is coerced joy. That is not a craft. It is a demand.

  2. Household

    4/10

The children are the cast and the captives. No parent is in the room that matters.

  3. Piety

    2/10

The host's happiness is the only creed, and it is a lie.

  4. Courage

    7/10

One child refuses the dance. The refusal is the brave act.

  5. Republic

    4/10

A set is not a people. The children are being governed by a toy.

  6. Temperance

    3/10

The horror is built out of a children's show. That is the point, and it is a cost.

  7. Truth

    6/10

The host says the missing child has gone somewhere wonderful. The picture shows that this is not true.

  8. Stewardship

    4/10

Nothing is being kept for the children. They are being spent to keep the show smiling.
