Ascension · Ascension
The Bible in a Year
79Worth an evening.
A house can put this on at the table. The reading is the point, not the host.
The review
Ascension puts out a reading of Scripture in the order of the story, with a few minutes of comment after. The comment is a priest's. A house that is not Catholic can still hear the chapter and decide what to do with the note.
This is one of the few shows that makes the listener more able to sit with a real book. Put it on while the dishes are being done. Do not let it replace the reading you do with your own voice.

The glance
Republic is the thin one.
Does anyone owe a neighbor, a law, or a town — or is every person out for themselves?
This phone is set for a grown person, just me. Change the ages.
The eight
- 8Industry
He shows up every day and finishes the chapter. That is a trade.
- 8Household
Made to be heard by a family, not by a crowd performing insight.
- 9Piety
Scripture is treated as something you answer to, not a prop.
- 7Courage
He keeps going through the hard books instead of skipping to the pleasant ones.
- 6Republic
A shared text is a civic good. The comment is Catholic, and it says so.
- 8Temperance
One episode. It ends. It does not ask you to binge a feeling.
- 8Truth
The text is read, not paraphrased into a brand.
- 9Stewardship
A year of it leaves a house with the book, not with the host.
