Pass it on
The Patriot
59Watch it awake.
The father is the point. The battle scenes are bigger and cleaner than the war was.
The review
Keep the part that matches the shelf: a man who would rather harvest than enlist, until the war comes into the house. That is ordered love, family before the flag, and then the flag because the family is not safe without it. Drop the part that treats battle as a sport and slavery as a problem the movie has no time for.
Watch it with older sons if you will talk over it. Ask what he refused at the start, and what the film will not look at on his own land.

Keep The Patriot in the record.

Live Historic number 59. Yours can differ.
The glance
Piety and Temperance are the thin ones.
Can conscience actually stop someone, or is reverence only in the shot so it can be mocked?
This phone is set for a grown person, just me. Change the ages.
Consider this
Glory
70 instead of 59
Glory is still a war film, and it scores 70 instead of 59. What you gain is truth: The unequal pay is not skipped.
The eight
- 6Industry
A plantation and a workshop. The film is shy about whose labor that was.
- 8Household
He fights because they took his children, not because of a speech.
- 4Piety
Church is scenery. Revenge does more of the driving than faith.
- 8Courage
He goes into the open for a son, knowing what it will make him.
- 6Republic
A militia is a real republican fact. This one is also a movie army.
- 4Temperance
The violence is staged to be satisfying. That is the wrong lesson.
- 5Truth
The family grief is true to the kind of war. The heroics are polished.
- 6Stewardship
He wants the children to have a country. The film wants a cheer.
