Pass it on
Sergeant York
48Watch it awake.
His conscience starts as a refusal to kill, and the film cashes it in as fame.
The review
A Tennessee farmer will not kill. The army takes him anyway. In the Argonne he captures a great many men, and the film treats that as the faithful outcome. Gary Cooper, playing a living man. People called it the largest American gross of its year. I'm not describing wounds. The piety is the start. The fame is the killing.
I wouldn't hand this to a child as the story of a good no. He does risk himself, and the captures are the record the country wanted. The movie then lets that record answer the refusal. If you watch it, keep those two facts apart. Older teens can hear the difference. Adults should not clap just because the gross was huge.

The glance
Household and Temperance and Truth and Stewardship are the thin ones.
Is a marriage, a parent, or a child a real life here, or just a prop?
This phone is set for a grown person, just me. Change the ages.
Consider this
The Bridge on the River Kwai
64 instead of 48
The Bridge on the River Kwai is still a war film, and it scores 64 instead of 48. What you gain is truth: A well-built bridge can be a betrayal.
