The Empire Strikes Back

A loss, a discipline, and a truth that arrives on time. Keep it. The reveal is not the only good.

Luke leaves Yoda because he is afraid for his friends, and the film does not pat him for it. He loses the hand and the illusion. Vader's sentence is devastating because Ben had told a kinder story. Han is taken. Leia does not get a victory lap. A free people can be routed and still be the side you stay with. That is the civic heart under the snow.

The house can watch it when the child is old enough for a loss that is not repaired before the credits. Say that the training mattered more than the duel, and that a comfortable lie about a father is still a lie.

The eight

    6/10

Pilots, a farm boy, a master who demands the boring practice.

  2. Household

    7/10

The father-revelation is the household catastrophe. Friends are the reason he breaks training.

  3. Piety

A discipline with a master. Not a church, and not nothing.

  4. Courage

    9/10

  5. Republic

    7/10

A rebellion on the run is still a people with a claim.

  6. Temperance

    6/10

Impatience is the fault. Vader's rage is the larger one.

  7. Truth

    9/10

The kind story about his father was incomplete. The ugly sentence is true.

  8. Stewardship

    8/10

Yoda is trying to hand on a way. Luke is not ready, and the film lets him be unready.
