Resident Evil
The outbreak is the toll. The measure is a man trying to get a cure back to a house.
Bryan takes a delivery to a hospital because the money is easy, then learns the woman he loves is pregnant and does not know what he wants. The city is already turning. He is not a soldier. The public account says that once he knows he is carrying a cure, the errand changes, and that he leaves her a message naming the child he had not been able to want out loud.
A first measure, and not a recommendation for a child. The monsters are the toll. If a house watches it, watch for the message, not for the body count. A man who finds out too late what he was for is a sadder story than a man who shoots his way to a door.
