Moana (Live Action)

A second production does not raise the score. The charge is still to go and to return.

The animated film already told this rightly: a chief's daughter crosses the reef because the island is dying, not because the island is too small for her personality, and she comes home. A live-action telling can be beautiful and still be the same measure. Newer water does not make a truer voyage. If the house already knows the story, you do not owe the new one your evening unless you want the songs again.

If the children have not met her, either picture will do. When it ends, ask what she brought back, and whether it was for her or for the village. The right answer is the village.

The eight

  1. Industry

    6/10

Wayfinding is a craft. The new picture does not invent a nobler one.

  2. Household

    7/10

A father, a grandmother, a village. She leaves and the leaving is not the victory. The return is.

  3. Piety

    6/10

The ocean and the ancestors are treated as if they were real claims on her.

  4. Courage

    7/10

She sails. Courage here is a duty to the people on the beach, not a wish to be special.

  5. Republic

    7/10

An island is a commons with a reef and a future it is afraid of.

  6. Temperance

    6/10

The songs swell. The story does not ask her to stay gone.

  7. Truth

    6/10

The sea is not a villain and not a mood. It has a nature.

  8. Stewardship

    8/10

What she brings home is a way for the people to keep living. That is the inheritance.
