A girl, a people, a boat, and a task that is not about becoming famous. Keep it.
Moana is given a wanting that could have been the usual wanting — see the world, be special — and the film ties it to a people who will starve if she is only special. Her father is strict because the reef has killed before. He is wrong about staying and right to care whether she comes back. The demigod is funny and proud and has to become useful. The theology is Polynesian and particular. You do not have to share it to see that a stolen heart has to be returned, and that a girl can carry her house with her instead of shedding it.
Good for the whole table, Kiki included. Afterward, ask what we have forgotten how to do that a grandparent still knew.

The eight
Industry
6/10
Wayfinding and sailing are taught as a craft the people had lost.
Household
7/10
A father, a grandmother, a village. She leaves because of them, not in order to escape them.
Piety
6/10
Ancestors and a creation story are the engine. It is not our creed. It is treated as real.
Courage
8/10
She sails anyway. The ocean is not a mood. It can kill her.
Republic
8/10
The unit is a people who have forgotten they were voyagers. She is restoring the memory, not her brand.
Temperance
7/10
Maui's vanity is the obstacle. It is corrected, mostly.
Truth
7/10
The island is dying because of a theft. The cure is restitution, not a feeling.

9/10
The last shot is the boats going out again. That is handing on, filmed.
