Beetlejuice Beetlejuice

A household is in the frame. The film is in love with the gags and the ghoul.

Lydia's daughter is in trouble, and the trouble the picture enjoys is Beetlejuice. The original already taught this trick: say the name and you deserve what comes. The sequel has more women in one family and the same affection for the demon. Style is not a measure. A girl choosing the living mother over the carnival would be.

Not for children. If you loved the first one, you already know this hour. Do not pretend the sequel is the family film because a teenager is in it.

The eight

  1. Industry

    3/10

Nobody's ordinary work survives the underworld.

  2. Household

    5/10

A mother, a daughter, a stepmother, a grief. The family is the excuse for the carnival.

  3. Piety

    2/10

The dead are a nightclub. Awe is a special effect.

  4. Courage

    4/10

They face the thing they called up. They called it up.

  5. Republic

    3/10

A town in mourning is the set, not the subject.

  6. Temperance

    3/10

Appetite, gross-out, and a wedding gag. The excess is the product.

  7. Truth

    4/10

Grief is real for a scene. Then the joke needs the room.

  8. Stewardship

    4/10

A daughter is being claimed by more than one parent, living and not. The film shrugs toward the living one.

Live historicallyDo not invite into the house, even as a joke, anything you would not want a child to repeat.

Alice Through the Looking Glass

A sequel that thinks a regret can be edited. Weaker than the first, and wrong about the clock.

The first film sent Alice out of a bad engagement and into a war, which was at least a choice about her own life. This one sends her into the machinery of Time to undo the Hatter's grief. The film is lavish and hollow. Time is a comic villain until the story needs him to be right, and he is right: you do not get to loot yesterday because you are fond of someone.

Skip it unless the house already loves these faces and can hear the correction. The correction is late. A clock is not your enemy because it will not give you a different childhood.

The eight

  1. Industry

    4/10

A captain, then a thief of a machine.

  2. Household

    4/10

The Hatter's family is the excuse. Alice's own house is a company dispute.

  3. Piety

    2/10

    Time personified, then pickpocketed.

  4. Courage

    5/10

She goes. The errand is a mistake.

  5. Republic

    3/10

    Courts and companies.

  6. Temperance

    3/10

Refusing a limit is the whole plot.

  7. Truth

    4/10

It stumbles into the admission that the past is not a draft.

  8. Stewardship

    3/10

What she risks is everyone else's present.

Live historicallyDo not promise a child that a past hour can be fetched back. Repair what can be repaired today.
