13 Going on 30

A fairy tale with the right moral: the impressive life was a bad trade.

Jenna wants to skip the awkward years, and the film is kind enough to show her the bill. The woman she becomes has the clothes, the job, and a trail of people she treated as rungs. Waking up inside that woman is a useful fright for a thirteen-year-old, more useful than most films aimed at her.

Watch it with a girl in that age. Ask which of the thirty-year-old's things she would not want if it cost her the friend. The romance is soft. The regret is the point.
