Stand by Your Man

Epic, under Sony. After all, he's just a man. The line is the problem and the point.

Epic released it. Sony owns Epic. Wynette was tired of songs that treated a husband's failure as the wife's cue to leave in a chorus. She sang the other risk: that you quit a person at the first hard year. Both risks are real.

The song is not a law. It is a reminder that staying is sometimes the brave thing, and sometimes the frightened one. A house has to know which night it is.

The eight

  1. Industry

    7/10

She sings a contested sentence as if she had lived it.

  2. Household

    7/10

A marriage, kept through the embarrassment.

  3. Piety

    4/10

Loyalty, not yet wisdom about harm.

  4. Courage

    6/10

    She says the unpopular stay.

  5. Republic

    4/10

A private vow said into a public argument.

  6. Temperance

    5/10

Give him time. Sometimes that is love. Sometimes that is delay.

  7. Truth

    6/10

She does not pretend he is impressive.

  8. Stewardship

    6/10

Hear the loyalty. Do not hear a command to endure a harm.

Live historicallyIf the argument is ordinary, consider staying in it until it is finished. If the argument is a harm, this song is not your orders.
