Ingredients

4
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • bacon drippings for the pan

Steps

  1. 1

Stir the salt and water into the meal until it is a soft batter.

  2. 2

Heat a skillet with a spoon of drippings.

  3. 3

Spread the batter thin, as you would a pancake.

  4. 4

Fry until the underside is spotted brown, then turn it.

  5. 5

    Eat at once, with butter.

A hoe cake is not a project. If you are measuring with a cup you already have more equipment than the cake requires.
