YouVersion Bible

The text is the point, and the text is actually here. Read it. Do not let the streaks become the devotion.

Would you still put it on?

The Bible, a reading plan, and an audio voice, in a pocket.

What it really is

This is the rare program that contains the thing it claims to contain. You can read a chapter. You can hear it. You can keep a place. That is enough to put it on a phone a house actually uses.

The danger is the streak. A number that congratulates you for opening the app is not the same as having read. If the badge becomes the point, close it and read a paper Bible, or read this one out loud so someone else hears it.

Live historically

Read one chapter aloud at the table this week. Leave the streak alone.

The eight

  1. Industry

    6/10

It is a tool for reading, not a craft. The craft is still yours.

  2. Household

    7/10

A house can hear a chapter together. The phone should not be the only one who knows the words.

  3. Piety

    9/10

Scripture is treated as a text to be read, not a mood to be worn.

  4. Courage

    6/10

A plan will ask you to open it on a day you would rather not.

  5. Republic

    6/10

A people formed by a book, not by a feed.

  6. Temperance

    8/10

It does not need you frightened or thrilled. It needs you to finish the chapter.

  7. Truth

    9/10

The words are the words. Highlights are yours. The text is not edited to flatter you.

  8. Stewardship

    8/10

A book that can be handed on, if the habit survives the app.
