The Odyssey

The point is the return, not the monsters.

Would you still put it on?

A husband spends ten years getting home. His wife holds the house. His son goes looking.

What it really is

The adventures are the part people quote. The story is a man trying to get back to a wife who would not take a substitute, and a son who has had to grow up without him. The suitors eat another man's house and call it their right. The ending says they are wrong.

Read the homecoming, not only the cyclops. A house that is held while someone is away is the measure.

  3. Piety

    8/10

  5. Republic

    8/10

  6. Temperance

    6/10

The lotus, the wine, and Circe are traps. He falls and he gets up. The suitors never do.

  7. Truth

    7/10

He lies to stay alive. The story loves the trick. It also loves the moment he is known.

  8. Stewardship

    9/10

The bed, the son, and the hall are handed back, not spent.
