Pride and Prejudice
A young woman refuses a rich man, and both of them have to admit what they got wrong.

A marriage is the plot, and a bad marriage has a bill.
Elizabeth Bennet will not marry a man she cannot respect, even when the money would save her family. That is the part to keep. Fitzwilliam Darcy will not stay the man who insulted her. That is the other part.
The book is funny about fools, and it is not funny about Lydia. A girl who runs off with a man of no character does not get a sparkling ending. She gets a small, embarrassed life. Read it for the correction, not for the dresses.
