Backyard Squirrel Maze

Real engineering, spent on a joke the children will love. Fine for a Saturday. Not a life.

Would you still put it on?

An engineer builds an obstacle course and lets the squirrels show whether it works.

What it really is

The squirrels are the advertisement. The thing worth keeping is a man who builds a machine, watches it fail, and changes the machine instead of the story. Children understand that faster than a speech about grit.

Do not let it become the whole evening. It is a good half hour and a thin meal. When it ends, hand somebody cardboard and a problem. Watching an engineer is not the same as becoming one.

Live historically

Give a child a small build with a way to fail. Stay until they fix one thing themselves.

The eight

  1. Industry

    8/10

He designs, builds, tests, and fixes. The craft is not fake.

  2. Household

    6/10

A backyard, and a tone a child can be in the room for.

  3. Piety

    3/10

Wonder is there. Reverence is not the assignment.

  4. Courage

    5/10

The risk is a failed machine, which is still a risk he accepts on camera.

  5. Republic

    4/10

Neighbors are scenery. The hero is the build.

  6. Temperance

    7/10

The joke is the point, and it does not train a worse appetite than laughter.

  7. Truth

    8/10

The failures stay in the film. That is the honest part.

  8. Stewardship

    6/10

A child might try to build something after. The film itself leaves a course in a yard, not a craft.
