Spotify: Music and Podcasts

Music is a lawful pleasure. The endless mix is a habit. Put on a record you chose, and let it end.

Would you still put it on?

A library of music that would rather you never choose the next song.

What it really is

Spotify can put a hymn, a dance, or a ballad in a kitchen, and this desk will not scold a kitchen for singing. The design still wants the next track more than it wants the one they meant to hear. Podcasts in the same app can be a second, less guarded feed.

Choose the music. Let the album end. Take one ear out at the table.

Live historically

Play one album all the way through, in the room, not only in the ears.

The eight

  1. Industry

    5/10

A player is not a craft. Learning the song would be.

  2. Household

    6/10

A song in the kitchen is an old good. Headphones at every meal are a wall.

  3. Piety

    5/10

Some of what they play is worth reverence. The shuffle does not know which.

  4. Courage

    4/10

No courage required. That is all right for a song. It is not a life.

  5. Republic

    5/10

A shared song is a small civic act. A private stream is not.

  6. Temperance

    4/10

Autoplay is the same trick as the video apps, set to music.

  7. Truth

    6/10

The song is the song. The podcast beside it may not deserve the same trust.

  8. Stewardship

    5/10

A few records, learned, will outlast a year of mixes.
