Ingredients

10
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 6 tablespoons cold butter
  • 3/4 cup cold buttermilk

Steps

  1. 1

    Heat the oven to 450°F.

  2. 2

Stir the flour, powder, salt, and soda. Cut the butter in until the pieces are the size of peas.

  3. 3

Pour in the buttermilk and stir until the dough just holds. Turn it onto a floured board.

  4. 4

Pat it to about 3/4 inch. Do not roll it thin. Cut straight down with a glass.

  5. 5

Set the rounds on a sheet so they nearly touch. Bake 12 to 14 minutes, until the tops are gold.

Reroll the scraps once. A second reroll makes them tough.
