The Final Problem
The performance was the alibi. The name was stolen.
In 1959 a storm pins thirteen people to a small island off Mallorca, and a retired actor who spent his life playing Sherlock Holmes has a real death in the hotel. The public ending is an exchange of names: the woman the room has been talking to killed her employer, took the life, and killed again to keep it, including a man she held responsible for her husband's death in the war.
The grief can be spoken. The killing cannot be hired to carry it. The measure is the old man who will not let the performance stand. A clever room is not a moral room.

The eight
Industry
6/10
A retired actor does the unglamorous work of looking, which is the only craft he has left.
Household
4/10
Thirteen strangers are not a house. A stolen name is how one woman ate another's life.
Piety
3/10
No creed. A wartime grief is used as a reason to kill, and it does not justify the killing.
Courage
6/10
He stays with the question after the storm has made leaving easy to want.
Republic
5/10
A small company, cut off, still owes the truth to the person who cannot speak.
Temperance
5/10
The puzzle is the pleasure. The murders are not a style the series asks you to enjoy.
Truth
8/10
The suicide was staged. The woman in the room is not the woman who was killed.
Stewardship
4/10
Revenge for a husband does not give the dead their names back.
Live historicallyIf someone in this house is living under a story that is not theirs, say the real name.
