To All the Boys: Always and Forever

The most grown of the three. A future is allowed to be larger than a boy.

Would you still put it on?

A girl has to choose a life, not only a boyfriend, and the family table is where the choice gets said.

What it really is

By the third film she is allowed a preference that is not him, and the story does not punish her for it. That is a correction, and it matters. A relationship that can survive two cities is a relationship. A relationship that requires one person to shrink so the other can keep the plan is a hostage situation with good lighting. This one, barely, chooses the first.

The family scenes carry it: a father marrying again, sisters who have their own exits, a house that is not embarrassed to be a house. Watch this one if you watch any of them. Then make a plan for your own next year that would still be a life if the person you love had a different zip code.

Live historically

Write down one aim for the next year that is not another person. Tell your house what it is.

The eight

  1. Industry

    5/10

College is a choice of work, not a backdrop. She is asked what she will actually do.

  2. Household

    7/10

A wedding, a father, sisters, and a trip that is about where she comes from.

  3. Piety

    4/10

No creed. The promise she is asked to make is at least a promise, not a mood.

  4. Courage

    6/10

She chooses a city and a school that are not his. That is harder than a declaration.

  5. Republic

    4/10

The world is still mostly the couple. The family is the part that widens it.

  6. Temperance

    6/10

Distance is treated as a fact, not as a tragedy to swoon at.

  7. Truth

    6/10

They say the hard thing about wanting different lives. The film lets the sentence finish.

  8. Stewardship

    6/10

A young woman decides what she will build. The boy is invited, not obeyed.
