A real story of loyalty. Know what else it is teaching before you make it the whole childhood.
The good of this book is specific: a boy with no one is given friends who will go down a corridor with him. The Weasley family is loud, poor, and intact. Those are not small gifts, and a child feels them.
The limit is also specific. Power is the prestige. The adults are mostly fools or secrets. If this becomes the only long story in the house, the child will practice cleverness more than duty. Read it. Put a plainer book beside it.

The eight
Industry
5/10
Schoolwork matters in bursts. Magic often replaces the labor.
Household
7/10
The Dursleys are a cruel house. Hogwarts and the Weasleys are the repair.
Piety
2/10
Wonder is everywhere. Reverence for anything above the self is not.
Courage
8/10
He walks toward the danger for his friends.
Republic
6/10
A school, a house team, and a rule he breaks when the rule is in the way.
Temperance
6/10
Fame follows him whether he wants it or not. The book is uneasy about that, sometimes.
Truth
7/10
Snape, and the last chapter, are truer than the school's first impression.
Stewardship
6/10
Friendship is the inheritance. The wider world is a stage for the next book.
