Facebook

A directory of people you know, buried under a feed. The directory is fine. The feed is not a place for a teenager to live.

Would you still put it on?

The old public square, now a feed of ads, groups, and relatives. Teens are still on the chart.

What it really is

Facebook is no longer where most teens think they live, and yet it is still in the top of both charts, often because the account, the groups, and the marketplace are welded together. The useful piece is a list of real people. The piece that does the harm is the ranked feed.

A teen does not need the feed. If a parent uses Marketplace or a family group, that can stay on the parent's phone.

Live historically

Take the feed off their phone. Family news can travel by message.

The eight

  1. Industry

    3/10

It does not teach a trade. It teaches refresh.

  2. Household

    4/10

Relatives are there. So is every argument they are having.

  3. Piety

    3/10

Groups can be a church bulletin or a mob. The app does not distinguish.

  4. Courage

    3/10

Outrage is the courage it knows.

  5. Republic

    4/10

A town page can be useful. The ranking of the town page is not the town.

  6. Temperance

    2/10

    The feed is the business.

  7. Truth

    3/10

    A share is not evidence.

  8. Stewardship

    3/10

It keeps a long memory of a young person's worst posts.
